It is November 1, and we are expected to reach a high of 70 degrees! These above average temperatures in October and now November have kept our bicycling season going, but we know the Fall season will soon change into the Winter season. Late Fall and early Winter in Lanesboro mean more quiet and less bustle. But don't let the quiet fool you - we are still open and ready to host you for a day or overnight. Lanesboro and Whalan still have plenty of things to do in the winter, and plenty of opportunities to do a whole lot of nothing! Remember you can always search lodging availabilty, any time of year, on lanesboro.com. While some Inns close (like we do in January and February), there are still options to stay in Lanesboro and Whalan in the winter - perfect for an escape to enjoy peace and quiet in our quaint towns in the heart of beautiful bluff country. Winter Highlights
The Commonweal Theatre, our live professional theatre company, has plays going through Sunday, December 18, 2022. November and December weekends can be a great time to come to Lanesboro to relax, enjoy a warm, home-cooked meal, and take in the stories at the Commonweal Theatre or visual art at Lanesboro Arts Gallery. Don't forget many of our retail stores open up on the weekends for fun shopping with locally-made items, fair trade items, men's & women's clothing, cozy PJs, various gifts, essential oils, food items, candy, candles, cold-weather gear, angling gear, jewelry, shoes, toys, kids' clothes, purses, bags, and so much more!
Take a morning break and grab a cinnamon roll, coffee, mocha, hot chocolate, or croissant from Home Sweet Home Cafe, Lanesboro Pastry Shoppe, and Parkway Market & Coffeehouse.
Cedar Valley Resort in nearby Whalan rents cross country skis and snowshoes. If we get decent snowfall, portions of the bike trail are groomed for cross-country skiing. Two favorite places to snowshoe are Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center (located just outside of Lanesboro) and Isinours State Forest Unit located in between Lanesboro and Preston (29604 246th St, Preston, MN 55965). Eagle Bluff even has trails for fat tire biking!
Our bass pond allows for some easy-access ice fishing as well as a spot to ice skate.
Book a workcation to take a break from your own four-walls. Lanesboro has fiber wifi, so we are ready for you to zoom, remote in, and work. After work, decompress by taking a walk on the trails, eat local in our restaurants, and revel in the stillness.
As the seasons change into fall and winter, Lanesboro provides a perfect place to celebrate each season and revel in its beauty and offerings. Come enjoy the peacefulness of southeastern Minnesota!
